Dachshunds in the Park...

Our next walk is scheduled for :

DATE:   Sunday, 19th February 2012

MEETING POINT:   Tomato Lake, Kewdale on grassy area near Coffee kiosk (plenty of parking on Scenic Drive off Oats Street)

TIME:   9.30am for 9.45am start

*Coffee kiosk opens 9am

There is a cyclepath that is 1.52 kilometres around the lake and a 104m boardwalk going over the lake. This works out as an ideal walk for the dogs as it is short and a complete circle.

As always we are open to suggestions and recommendations for good parks to hold a walk. Ideally with lots of parking, and a short but circular walk so as to be considerate of our older Long Dog members.

But please ensure should you nominate a park or know the park that we attend please can you make yourself known so that we at least have some local knowledge of the area. Thanks :-)

Lastly, if you have found our blog or bumped into a member at a park we would love you to join us but please just send me an email before arriving on the day with your details and photos etc as it saves time on the day trying to make sure we have everyone registered and their contact details. Your adherence to this would be greatly appreciated.

ABOUT ME: Introducing Safa A.K.A safie. We bought Safa just before Christmas as a early present somewhere out in the country. When we first saw him he was about 1 week old and the previous owner nicknamed him Grumpy which was hard to believe because Safa aways wants to play with his toys. When we boght him home mum wouldn't leave him alone. But he quickly became the center of attention. He eats ANYTHING from an apple to an apple sticker and he even knows how to open the freezer! Safa hates the lawn mower and water. I think he might be related to a cat! Lastly as my first dog I think Safa made a good impression. :)

So he is added to the crazy 'Cousins Zoo' along with Frankie (Black and Tan Sausage - who recently under went major back surgery) and one of the original members of Long Dogs WA... member number 4 and then of course Roxy (our West Highland White Terrier).
He snuggles....ALL THE TIME! He is now about 7 months old and is afraid of leaves...he barks like a girl...and he still pee's inside! But hey...we love him all the same :)

ABOUT ME: My name is Noodle (aka Noodlepants), I was born on the 25th of March, I am a smooth coated tan miniature dachshund. My loving mummy and daddy (Nicole and Matthew) adopted me from breeder when I was six weeks old. I have one sister who was adopted by Matthew's parent's, I get to see her on a weekly basis for play dates! I also have a "step brother" who is Pancakes, a miniature lop bunny who I love to hop around the house with!

I'm very playful, I love to run around the big garden, I have, destroy all toys I get my teeth on, eat tasty food, and above all things snuggle up to my mummy and daddy! I can be a little cheeky around other dogs, but I'm always loving and friendly.

I'm almost 10 months old, and looking forward to meeting some new long friends!

She is the best smoocher this side of the river. Her number one priority is being next to you or preferably on top of you as soon as you sit down. She loves long movies, chicken necks, and stealing her 4 year old human sisters toys.

She learns very fast and has mastered sit, drop, roll over, and "get in your bed", although if there is no chicken treat in your hand she pretends she has no idea what you are talking about.

Her family love her very much and couldn't imagine life without her!

ABOUT ME: Snickers was born on Valentines Day this year, and has become a wonderful companion to our family which comprises of myself, my husband Nathan and son, Michael who is 5 years. At the moment he's almost 10 months of age.

He's a very chilled out dog, very gentle natured and loves affection. He takes his role of being a personal escort for us from room to room very seriously. He's also started to bark when people come to the door and is very very social with people as well as all dogs. He thinks everyone should be his friend. He also gets along beautifully with his little mouse friend, Toffee who likes to sit on him. As far as puppies go, he's not too mischievious, leaving along most things, but does like to run off with shoes and tissues... He's obviously a delight to be around, and just enjoys being with us all the time. He's been great to train, and of course, loves his walks around Carine Open Space.

ABOUT ME: I am a Silver Dapple Mininature Dachshund and have lovely blue eyes, I came over from NSW when I was a few weeks old, I was born on the 30/12/2010. I really like being in WA as I love my big sister Mandy and my 2 foster brothers and sister because we have lots of fun together, but my Mum sometimes does not like it when I play in my water bowl and then make muddy paws to run inside, I think it is fun though. I did enjoy our walk with long dogs, even though I am a bit shy with strangers, I am starting to get a bit braver now so hope to make lots of new friends. I love also annoying the cats that live with me too, but they tend to ignore me as they are bigger than me, but I enjoy barking at them anyway. ABOUT ME: Douglas is now 8 months old and 80cm long from tip of nose to tip of tail. He is a mini black and tan dachshund. We got him from Mt Lawley pets in July.

He loves to play outside and lay in the sunshine.

He is very cheeky and playful.

Loves to eat rotten passionfruit from the garden (much to our dislike).

He is very smart and always one step ahead.

He loves having raspberry’s blown on his neck

No squeaky toy or chew rope lasts more than 1 day. (we find plastic bottles are his best option)

Well Penny is 11months old and her birthday is boxing day! Penny is a tinted red long haired miniature sausage. She came all the way from Queensland.

Penny enjoys sitting on the balcony barking at anyone who walks by, friend or foe! She also enjoys doing the opposite of whatever we ask her to do. She rolls her eyes at us a lot :D She loves long walks and playing at Yokine with other dashchund friends that pop by. She makes us laugh every day!!

Penny LOVES peanut butter and chasing the duster when we try to clean. You would have seen us around at the last long dog walk and we plan to see you all at the next!

ABOUT ME: Introducing Molly a red, short-haired standard dashie-the sweetest, loving and funny little girl. She is partially deaf and blind and almost 12 now. We got her when she was 3 from a breeder because she couldn’t have puppies anymore and so we took her with much pleasure. She is hilarious and keeps us all amused every day. She is our family angel and we love her so dearly even though she is the most stealthy cat biscuit snaffler there ever was! She injuredr her spine when she was about 5 and we thought we were going to lose her but after much rehabilitation and many ‘towel walks’ she came good and we were so happy! She has had no relapses since J She is a couch puppy, you will usually find her there, or pulling your doona off your bed to lay on it on the floor! She can’t do a whole lot these days so we look forward to meeting some long dog friends but might not get far with the walk hehe! She is an absolute hoot and although quite shy around strangers hopefully she will feel more relaxed with a large possie of longdog buddies around her J

ABOUT ME: Hi There, My name is Ruby and I’m a Chocolate Miniature Dachshund.

I am 12 weeks old and have a 1 year old sister called Lucy (#128) who is already a Long Dog member. I am from NSW and actually have the same mum as Lucy!

I go to Puppy Pre School at the moment and I’m not very good at it. When I go I miss my sister Lucy so I struggle to concentrate and prefer to just sit under my mum and dads chair.

My favourite things to do are to Play with Lucy, Chew on Lucy and Sleep next to Lucy. I also love my toys and try to eat everything in sight! Mum and Dad take Me and Lucy walking every morning and to the park most nights.

This weekend is my first Long Dog walk and really looking forward to meeting some dachshund friends.

I'm so sad to report that we were unable to find Tilly before she was hit and killed by a car on Leach Highway late last night. I have been touched by all the kind words and help from so many, friends and strangers alike.

Many thanks for all the help you provided during what has been an awful week.

Yesterday (15/11/11) our dog Tilly managed to escape from a backyard in Karrinyup where she was being doggy-sat and we have not been able to locate her.

We’ve done all the standard things like contact the council, vets etc, but thought it might be worth mentioning to all the Long Dog Members in case you spot a long dog on the loose.

Here name is Tilly, she is a red smooth hair miniature wearing a pink collar and red tag. She is thee years old, desexed with a black tip on her tail. She is microchipped and very shy and unlikely to approach anyone she doesn’t know. So she may be a struggle to catch.

She was last seen on Ralston Ave, Kardinya at 9:30am yesterday, Tuesday 15^th November.

If anyone sees her I would be very appreciative if you could give me a call on 0413 555 298.

ABOUT ME: Hunny is our long haired girl. She will be 2yrs old in Dec. Her signature move is to roll on her back to get you to rub her belly, she has done this since she was a puppy from the day we brought her home. She is all bark to begin with until she feels comfortable with you then she will be wanting attention. She used to be petrified of our kitten when we first got it but now they are great friends. She has the funniest (cutest) pattern of fluff and a lot of people think she has a mohawk at times. Some of her nicknames are "Hunnybee" or "Little fluffy legs" or "Little baby". ABOUT ME: Scooter is nearly 5yrs old he is the smooth haired one. I think we should have name him Hoover because he eats anything and I've never seen a dog eat so quick, I think he just inhales food. ABOUT ME: This is our Mini smooth Ryder! (LowRyder for long!). He is just turned 5 months old and is still the cutest thing EVER. He loves making music with his squeaky toys and is always sleeping flat on his back in the sun. We always take him for walks on the beach and he's slowly getting the hang of Fetch! He has a strange fascination for Snails, bras, shoes and facial hair... and he loves giving kisses. We found Ryder through the long dogs website and brought him along to the last walk. ABOUT ME: I found Honey when she been about 6 month old,she been running the street and I almost run her over.

When I stoped and checked she came right away to me.

The way she looked, dirty and full of fleas and ticks, I knew she was lost or a stray.

So I went to the Vet with her, checked her out and been told she does not have a micro chip.

I put leaflets out in the Street where I found her,and the Vet put her on the system in case someone ask for her.

Nothing... so since then she stays with me :-)

ABOUT ME: Hi every long body - he he...
My name is Juno. I was born on April 4th 2008 in Melbourne. I am very lucky to live opposite a big park in Yokine (which would make an excellent venue for a Long Dogs walk).

My hobbies are: chewing the stuffing out of my toys (preferably squeaky ones which make excellent dinner music when my family are eating without me); sleeping (in everyone's bed but mine) and eating Shmackos (my reward when I haven't left a little punishment on the rug for leaving me home alone).

I am very affectionate and love cuddling and catching people off guard with my lick kisses. I get very excited to see people I like and do a special circle/figure 8 combo dance and hope they will reward me with a tummy tickle. Sometimes this causes slight bladder leakage and I wonder if I should seek help, but I don't worry too much as I know that I am still very much loved.

I am so looking forward to meeting you all at the next walk. Mainly because the attention I get when I am out is sometimes so overwhelming "oh look at the gorgeous sausage" " she's so cute" "can I pat her" blah blah blah... It will be so nice to share the burden with others that understand.

My name is Bruno and I was born on the 26th of June 2011 at Lauranook in Victoria. I am a miniature, smooth haired, black and tan dachshund. My favourite past times are sleeping, digging, barking at other dogs, rolling onto my back for belly rubs, playing with chester the airedale (he's a big doggy!), playing tug of war and stealing socks. Things I like to chew include rocks, cables, slaters, sticks, mats, ants and bottles. So much to chew in this world!

My vaccinations will be working by the start of November so I will be coming to the next dachshund walk! So 'cited bout this. Yeh. And I will also be able to go for long, romantic walks at the doggy beach.

If I was to go on a play date with another dachsie we would have to have go to a restaurant that serves raw chicken wings as they are my fav. Sometimes eating skippy is nice too. And 'sghettis! See you all soon!

ABOUT ME: My name is Alfie, I am a little miniature longhair dachshund, am almost 8 years old and live with my parents Yvonne and Cyrill in Butler, north of Perth. Yvonne and Cyrill have moved here from Switzerland 2 years ago and adopted me 6 weeks after their arrival. Apparently they always dreamed of having a little dachshund, but since they where both working full time in Switzerland, this was not possible. Oh, by the way, I am bilingual, speak English and Swiss German. ;-)

I have spent the first 6 years of my live with my breeder, who was really nice to me, but there where many other doggies and she did not have the time to give me the cuddles I need. How different my life is now! My mum is only working a few hours a week, which means that I spend most of the time with her. She loves to take me for walks and to give me at least 1000 cuddles a day. And I am always so excited when Cyrill gets home after work, he is the best dad ever! My parents say that I have changed their lives, they sure have made my life beautiful! They plan to join you for the next walk. I am really excited about this, but also a little bit afraid, since I am a very shy little fellow.

ABOUT ME: My name is Bailey and I was bred by Luvadachy in Esperance WA.

Happily I came to my new home in Perth in a small doggy cage in the hold of an aircraft when I was 8 weeks old and my new Mum & Dad fetched me from the airport – they were so excited to meet me.

Today was my first meeting/walk and I loved it. I met many new friends something like 73 in total and enjoyed frolicking and sniffing about with all of these Dacheys. I am now a big boy of 3 years and I am now looking forward to the next meeting.

My girl Chica has had 3 puppies, she is the mother of Teddy, who also is a Long Dogs WA member. There are 2 boys left, one choc ‘n tan and the other black n’ tan, both vaccinated , wormed and of course gorgeous!!! Going for 950.00 each.

The little girl went last week and has settled into a household of 2 young girls and another mini dax,

she is doing well.

We are looking to find homes for the boys!!

Clarkson Reserve - Maylands

Every walk I think it can't get much bigger and it does, it is going to be hard to find a park that can accommodate us all !?

What a way to start the walking season :-) and our 11th Long Dogs WA walk.

Unguided we went the opposite direction from the wedding ceremony as we thought no bride would appreciate her guests all "ahhhing" and "oooing" over 72 Long Dogs walking passed in the middle of her ceremony!!!

The path ended so some of our members took advantage of the boat ramp and took a dip in the Swan River.

Thanks again for taking the time to join us this afternoon!

UPDATE: 11am ... Of course there would be a big rain storm on our first walk for the season!!Just waiting to see if it will clear but walk still scheduled to go ahead!!

It's that time again!!! Spring has sprung and our walks start up again. After the success of the last afternoon walk we are trying for a similar time slot....

ABOUT ME: We bought Munchkin from Ian and Kim Cross in Armadale. She was so small and we could not believe what a light colour she was at that age. Munchkin is well loved. She goes virtually everywhere with us. She also has "Grand Parents" who become home away from home when I am at work. They have a little garden which she loves and the attention she receives is just wonderful. Munchkin attended Puppy School at Vet West in Hillarys. They are fantastic there. She was introduced to the beach as soon as her jabs were completed. The beach is her favourite. She loves all the dogs, all the humans and all the children. She has such a friendly, loving nature. Munchkin is a keen eater and we are having to watch her diet as she is looking a little too podgy. She weighs 6.5kgs. What is the average??? Munchkin in 6 months and has been desexed after a lot of deliberation. Munchkin is the 8th longdog that our family have owned. We are true Munchkin lovers.

ABOUT ME: I have just bought a miniature smooth dachshund. I named her Stella, but the nickname munchkins has also stuck. When I was younger I got a standard longhaired, her previous owner had to find a new home for her so she was 5 years old when I got her. Her name was Goldie and she was a very cool dog.

Stella is 11 weeks old. I would love to join your blog as I need a lot of advice from people who know what they are talking about! I stumbled across your blog when googling advice on how to train your dachshund so that they are able to be left at a friends house without us (eg if we are going away for a night and can't take her), as I feel that this will be the biggest challenge. Happy to send some photos and introduce Stella to the Long Dogs WA community :)

Her mum (Princess) is the same colour, and her dad (Prince) is black with tan spots above his eyes. Stella and her sister (who went to a different owner) were the only surviving pups from a litter of five. I think two were still born and one unfortunately died a bit later on, but not 100percent sure on that.

Stella is not yet toilet trained, but hopefully she will get the hang of it asap! She is also a bit sad when we leave the house for work, but fingers crossed she will get more comfortable with being alone soon also. She loves chewing anything and everything and has a range of toys to keep her occupied. She likes bones to chew on, and loves sitting on her dad's lap when he is working on the computer. Stella also loves going to bed with a nice warm heat pack.

ABOUT ME: Rose was given to me from a farmer that came into the Vet Hospital and had a pup in his hand and said "do you want this?" It was in Katanning many years ago when I was Veterinary Nursing. Rose is 11 years now and never had a trip to the vet till disc problem.

ABOUT ME: Hi, I'm Choky, I am a seven year old gentleman , my much loved lady had to move to Bali to live and work, so I have come to live with Andrew, Debra and two and a half year old Molly, member 133, who is now my little sister.
I have settled in well (many thanks to Sharman at http://www.dachshundrescueaustralia.com/ for helping us all to get together), I have bonded with my new family well (I am sleepng on Andrews lap as he types this) and love cuddling with him, Deb and Molly on the couch after we go for our walk.
Molly is a typical little sister, after a couple of days she started teasing me with toys and then running off,
now she runs up and pushes and bumps me until I give in and we chase around, playing tag and jumping out at each other, rolling over and playing until we are puffed out.
She has told me of the big Long Dog meets and I am looking forward to the next one, I am a little reserved at the moment when I meet a new friend but friendly after a little while.
I send some photo's, Molly and I at the park (I am the larger), both of us sharing a rug on the couch and Molly and I having a tug of war over a soft toy Andrew bought us.

ABOUT ME: Hello, my name is Earnest Bernard (Ernie or Ernie Bernie for short) and I live with my new human family Helen, Lachlan, Jim and Anne and a 3 year old red dacshund called Daphne. I was born on the 7th of April 2011 and met my adoptive mum Helen when I was just 4 weeks. She came and saw me every week until I was old enough to go home with her in June! I am very spoiled by my new family and am putting on maybe a little too much weight because I LOVE to eat everything in sight. My favourite thing in the world is having my belly rubbed and I will roll

Hey Guys, my little Roxy has had a litter off puppies.

They are Mini Smooths all Reds and Shaded Reds, I have 4 girls and 1 boy left, they are vet check and vaccinated, very playful, they are $1000 and will be ready on the 8th of August, they come with a full refund policy if at any point of the dogs life the owner is unable to care for the dog I will buy the dog back at 100% of the cost.

I do this so none of my puppies will ever end up in a shelter. These puppies are also full blood brothers and sisters to two of our Long Dog members Shinga and Pepper and one of our new members Alfie is in fact their father.

ABOUT ME: My name is Charli, I am a very well travelled miniature smooth hair black and tan dachshund. I was born in Central NSW on January 23rd 2010 and flew all the way to Weipa in far north QLD when I was 10 weeks old to join my new family (my mum Honey, my dad Tony, my big sister Indi and my big brother Bon the Eclectus Parrot). I lived there till just before Christmas when my family and I drove from Weipa to the Sunshine coast and then in April this year my family decided to make Perth our new home so I joined them on a 10 day road trip from the Sunshine Coast to Perth, I did 5 states in 10 days, camped, stayed with friends and had so much fun :)

I love living in Perth! The beaches here are so nice and I love to go for long walks with my mum and sister at the dog beaches and play with all the other dogs that we meet including a couple of long dogs just like me :) I love to sunbake in my courtyard (when the sun is shining which is not very often at the moment) I love to take all of my toys out of my toy basket and scatter them all over my living room floor. I love to snuggle on the couch with whoever has the warmest blanket and most of all I love sleeping in my mum and dad or big sitsters bed, I have to take turns so they know I love them all just as much! Well now you know all about me. I can't wait for this wet weather to go away so I get to meet you and all the other long dogs, and hopefully I will see Noodle (who told me all about this website) again too.

ABOUT ME: We are the proud new owners of the handsome Phantom. We adopted him through Dachshund Rescue Australia from another loving family who have had a drastic change in their circumstances and can't care for Phanty anymore. He has settled in very well. Probably a little too well as he enjoys sleeping at night on my daughters bed lol.

We have started to take him everywhere we go on the weekends so he has been to friends houses, soccer practice with my little boy, soccer games with our friends and to the video shop today aswell....until we got asked to take him outside...(oops).

We would love to meet up with other Dachshund owners so i can learn more about the breed. Phantom is a pedigree Miniature Smooth Black and Tan but carrying a little pudge so now a Small Standard Smooth. He is quite standoffish when he first meets people but once he has relaxed he is quite affectionate. He was born in Houston, Texas in March 07 and came to Australia in Jan 2010. We have had him a week and love him to bits.

What a turn out!!

Well they certainly got it right naming this place... it certainly is "open space" - it is like a mini Kings Park!!!!

After a bumpy start trying to all meet at the right meeting point, luckily long dogs aren't too hard to spot! We set off a little behind schedule but what a place - it is huge!!!

It even came with its own herd of horses!!

Thank to all of you that came to spend the afternoon with us!!

We look forward to seeing you all again in October.

We try our best to avoid days where people may be busy like Easter, Mothers Day and the school holidays but also have to be aware that the later we leave it, we also expect the weather to start to change so we have scheduled our next walk for :

ABOUT ME: Rocket is our little smooth-haired boy and is a mix between a standard and a mini and yes he can run as fast as a rocket! He doesn't see the point in doing tricks as people give him treats anyway because he's so cute. Dobie is definitely the more excitable of the two but she is great with other dogs. Rocket, on the other hand, is calm and quiet around people but can be anxious around other dogs.

There are not many sausage dogs around where we live so we would love to join your dashie walking club so we can socialise Dobie and Rocket a bit (especially Rocket) and also to meet other sausage dog owners.

ABOUT ME: Dobie is a very smart standard smooth-haired female who loves to boss around Rocket. When she was a puppy, she chewed everything, and I mean EVERYTHING including the dog house. Thank goodness she has grown out of that (and the chillies helped). We named her Dobie because she sounds and looks just like a Doberman but a quarter the height!

We are first-time Dachshund owners but have had both dogs for over a year now. I can't imagine life without them and there is nothing better than to see their faces at the bottom of the gate waiting for me to get home from work every day. They are a great de-stressor.

One of our members has kindly recommended a great walk in Canning Vale - there is a figure eight walk, plenty of shade, and according to Andy it takes around half an hour at a casual pace. So we have decided to hold the next "Dachshunds in the Park"on :

DATE: Sunday, 13th March 2011

MEETING POINT: Sanctuary Waters in Canningvale (The best entrance is Sanctuary Ave off Ranford Rd (carries on from the end of South St), turn right at the roundabout at the park into Alexandria Blvd, there is street parking.)

TIME: 9.15am meeting point, walk to start at 9.30am (weather permitting)

Due to the endless number of hot days exceeding temperatures of 35C we have held off making our next date for "Dachshunds in the Park"

ABOUT ME: We are new to the dachshund world. My husband and I have always owned big dogs until December 2010 when we brought home our beautiful girl Zeena, a miniature dachshund. Zeena was 10 months old when we got her, and has settled into our home well, however she is shy around other people who aren't her family. We would love to get her out and meet other dachshund owners and their fur babies.

We still have a big dog also, and we are hoping that he is allowed to come along too. He is a very well behaved 7 year old Great Dane. Technically a long dog. A Very Long Dog, just not a long dog with a low belly.

We are very keen to meet other like minded owners.

We have had some distressing news about one of our founders of Long Dogs WA "Jett" ....

A few weeks ago he presented with all the clinical signs of a dog with severe neck & back pain caused either through an injury he sustained at some stage (we don’t know when as there was no specific incident/event) or, worst case scenario the onset of degenerative spine disease, which Dacchies are predisposed to.

There is not much we can do for him at this stage other than trying to reduce the swelling and inflammation through strict rest (in a cage with 2 hourly toilet breaks), pain killers and anti-inflammatories and of course being positive. He will have another assessment and further diagnostic tests with the specialist in early March and we will know more then but at this stage we are just trying to keep him as still and as comfortable as possible.

He sadly will not be joining us on the next walk but should you like to send Jett some get well wishes please feel free to add your comments to the blog below this posting.

ABOUT ME: This is Hennessey. He is a miniature dachshund and is 10 weeks old. He is the cutest pup and very intelligent even though he uses his smarts mainly for mischief rather than learning to be a good household member. However in doing so he keeps us on our toes and provides many laughs!! He won the hearts of everyone in his puppy pre school however he chose to sleep through most of his classes and didn't really participate in social activities, preferring to hide behind the nearest pair of human legs! He enjoys sleeping on the couch, psycho-runs around the house, chewing everything he can reach (especially my clothes!) and of course belly-rubs.
This is our first time owning a dachshund and we are enjoying seeing his personality develop. Dachshunds really are a special breed.

ABOUT ME: I have a mini smooth called Daphne who was born in 2008. She is the love of my life, even though she loves my dad and my boyfriend more than me! She was bred by Ian from

Lowenhyte Daschunds. Daphne's best friend and adopted mother is Tilly a kelpie cross, who was 13 years old when we got Daphne. At first Tilly wasn't sure what to make of this new "rat" we had just brought home, but after about a week they were inseparable. Tilly cleans Daphne from head to toe every day and gives way to her in everything, including food and chewy toys. Unfortunately Tilly is getting on a bit and turns 16 this year and we aren't sure how Daphne will cope when Tilly goes to the big farm in the sky. So looking forward to meeting lots more friends through Long Dogs WA for Daphne.

In Memory ... Rosie

Very sadly, our beloved and very quirky dachshund Rosie, who had just turned 12, died on the 14th November, 2010 from a probable brain tumour. She was very brave despite losing her sight, smell and hearing over just a few weeks.

She is very sadly missed by her sister Georgy, who has been seen pining at her graveside, her loving brother Matt and her parents. She was a dear member of our family.

ABOUT ME: I am the most neurotic 10 year old dachshund my mother says she has ever owned - and she would know, as she's had six of us by now! I used to somersault completely off the ground. Mum thought she was going mad the first time she saw me do it. Since my cervical disc injury Mum's decided this is a bad idea. Dad wanted to give me pills to calm me down - Mum said an overdose wasn't what the vet had in mind!!

I'm the cinderella of the household to Georgy; my archnemesis! Sadly, I won't get to meet you guys, as I hate all other dogs ......despite the pills.

ABOUT ME: Honey is a red mini smooth and is nearly two. We live in South Perth but also have a farm near Cranbrook so Honey thinks she's a sheep dog.She makes up in voice what she lacks in size! We have had a long dog for as long as I can remember and love them dearly.

I am presently working as a volunteer with rescue. I rescue many breeds of dogs including x breeds. It is a great feeling to find homes for dogs that cannot find their owners and these dogs do include dachshunds, along with many purebred breeds.

Please can I remind you to make sure your dog is microchipped and registered with your local council. You would be surprised at how many are not (including purebred dachshunds). I have also had my dachshund's microchip checked at my vets to ensure it hasn't moved or lost as this has been known to happen.

We are lucky that we have a Dachshund Rescue (based in NSW) who also help with abandoned dachshunds and I'm pleased to report the latest re-homing has been in WA.

Sometimes these dogs are in pounds and it is a desperate situation - councils only need to hold the dog for 72 hrs before putting to sleep, so a temporary home is often the only thing that saves the dog from death and can provide a time to find a new forever home.

Greetings fellow Dachshund lovers of Perth!

Apologies for the group email- the response to the callout was huge and this is the only way i can (try) to keep up with you all. I'm also sorry it has taken me so long to even get this reply to you.

Now then, firstly.. A GIANT THANKYOU for responding to my callout for the DACHSHUND UN.

Some of you would have seen (or even helped with- 'norbert'!) the first version of this project, which took place in Melbourne in May of this year. If you haven't, some of the links below will help give you an idea of what will be involved for the Perth edition, which will take place at PICA on November 6th and 13th.....

Take a look at these if you are not familiar with the project, You will be one of the people that you can't see underneath the platforms, and yr beloved dachshunds will be the one's staging a meeting of the United Nations!

So the next step is for us all to meet in person before the project. This needn't take any longer than 20 mins or so, and just gives me a chance to photograph you and yr dog and gives you a chance to ask me any questions that you might have about the project, before deciding whether or not you'd like to be involved. You are obviously under no obligation to proceed, but i would love to have you all involved, and can assure you it's a very fun project with spots for all who wish to be involved.

To make this easy for us all, for the next two Saturdays (october 16th and 23rd) I will spend the afternoon at a park in Leederville between 12 and 5pm, and am now inviting you to bring you and your dogs down there at any time between 12 and 5 that suits you.

The park is next to the freeway, at the very end of Bourke st, opposite the tennis club. It will be easy for me to spot you- via the dachies, but I will be sitting on a green chair near to the playground on the Bourke St side of the park. I will attach a map to this email.

I know it's very short notice for tomorrow, but if any of you could make it down tomorrow afternoon that would be fantastic.

If not, just let me know and as i said before- I will be doing the same thing for the next two weekends. I can also make some weekday times available if that suits you more, as some of you may work on the weekends.

Once again, thankyou! I look forward to meeting you and your dachshunds (greatest creature on earth) and hope you will enjoy this project as much as I have.

Tomato Lake - Kewdale 9.30am

We were blessed with another gorgeous morning for a Long Dogs walk!

DATE: Sunday, 3rd October 2010

MEETING POINT: Tomato Lake, Kewdale on grassy area near Coffee kiosk (plenty of parking on Scenic Drive off Oats Street)

TIME: 9.15am meeting point, walk to start at 9.30am (weather permitting)

*Coffee kiosk opens 9am

There is a cyclepath that is 1.52 kilometres around the lake and a 104m boardwalk going over the lake. This works out as an ideal walk for the dogs as it is short and a complete circle.

Hope to see you there....

We do not hold any walks during Winter as most Long Dogs don't like to get their tummies wet so we will start again in October 2010.
