Red Carpet Event

 It was a delight to see so many dachshunds join us at Kings Meadow Polo Ground in Guildford for our Red Carpet event.

Everyone was on their best behaviour - we had a prize ready for the first pup to piddle on the red carpet - but no one did!

Local resident, Morsedog esq, was on hand to make sure things ran smoothly.

Our food and beverage manager, Dash, kept Team Chiara and Vince on their toes. He volunteered to taste test the delicious cakes but they were selling like, well, hot cakes, so I don't think he managed to get one.

The Paw Print Studio was a little quiet, so our resident artists, Jane and Bruno, had a moment to step out for a quick appearance on the red carpet and to chat with the press.

The couture on the field was breathtaking. Tim Gunn would have been so proud of all our budding designers and their models.

The 2014 Doxie award winners were;

Best Lead Actor - Armani
Best Supporting Actor - Guinness and Keats
Best Visual effects - Ludwig and Dude

Best Lead Actress - Scout
Best Supporting Actress - Hunny with the handbag
Best animation - Molly

We had over 150 dachshunds on the day and our new venue gave us plenty of room to spread out.

Some fabulous members got their phones out so for footage of the races check out our facebook group. Some dogs had a better idea of how a race works than others... The finish line is usually in the front- not backwards, not to the side - in front.  I think there are some coaches out there feeling very nervous about their positions about now.   Youngster Pixie had the right idea though and I think she has a bright future ahead of her.

The organisers certainly enjoyed not have do quite so much heavy lifting, and the undercroft let us all get up-close and personal when the rain came down, truncating the event for some.

Luckily we live in Perth and before long the rain clouds had drifted on their merry way and the dogs were able to get out for a last romp on the paddock. That was perfect timing for one little late-comer, Frankie, who popped in to say hi. After all, games, costumes and all that aside, Long Dog events are great opportunities to make new friends.

On the fundraising side, we had some great items available on the day. We know many of you couldn't make it on the day, so we will be making our exclusive Dachshund Love Mugs, stubby holders, cushion covers, bags and more available for order. More information on that will be posted later this week.

A big thank you to everyone for making it a great day out.  Special mentions go to;
