The Big Birthday Bash

Long Dogs WA turned 10 this year and to celebrate we had cake. Oh, and a party. And we raised money for dachshunds in need while we were at it because that's just the kind of community we are.

Being able to do that was a close run thing this year.  If it hadn't been for some quick thinking, good contacts and a man with a big mower we wouldn't have been able to see the weiners from the weeds.

With a manageable patch beaten into relative submission we were able to go ahead and we paced, paraded, passed, purchased, postulated and partook.

Mandurah July 2016

Our Mandurah walk was the wettest and shortest I've attended, so a big shout out to all those long doggers who braved the elements.

39 doughty dachshunds arrived at about 1:45 pm and enjoyed a good (dry) sniff round with the other dogs before we headed off, at brisk pace, around the park a little after 2pm. A few minutes into the actual ramble the rain began, which served to shift the pace into more of a brisk trot.

Winter walk on the wild side - Whiteman Park

For our June walk we're meeting at Whiteman Park. This is a strictly on-lead walk.

The park is quite big, so be sure to check the maps below so you don't get lost and miss out on all the fun.

We will be following Werillyiup Bush Trail around Horse Swamp.  The trail is a 3km loop so if you have an older dog, or a younger person, you may need to be prepared to carry them if they get tired half way round. Last year we saw a variety of all terrain vehicles for the less mobile hounds including a trolley and a push chair.

Dogs will need to be on-lead at all times around the trail. If you want some off lead time, there is an enclosed dog park you can use before or after the walk.

High Tea 2016

The year is flying by and that means it is nearly Tea Time - High Tea that is.

When:Saturday 28 May, 1-4pm
Where: Pagoda Resort and Spa, Como

If you haven’t bought your ticket yet, we'll wait right here while you do that...
Now you're all set you'll be excited to see some of the great things up for grabs on the day.

There are some great door prizes, raffle prizes and silent auction items and here's a picture.

There will games to play and stories to tell. Well, we'll have games, including Heads and Tails and table quizzes and the longdogs online store items will be available for sale.

While the dogs aren’t invited to this event, the up-side of that is you can bring your friends, relatives and colleagues along without them being barked at or wee-ed on.

If you’re bringing your Mum along, be sure to let us know so we can get a Mum’s Day photo of you and her to celebrate a belated Mum's Day.  Let's face it, they really deserve a month long festival not just a day.

All funds raised will be going to Dachshunds in Need.We looks forward to seeing you there.

Long Dogs WA Events Calendar 2016

In 2016, Long Dogs WA are raising their paws with an events calendar that’s guaranteed to get those tails wagging! It’s going to be filled with fun activities for both the furry and human family members and jam packed with great opportunities to raise funds for dachshunds in need.

Monthly Social Walks
We kicked off our monthly walks in January and for those of you who missed the calendar, here for the walk dates for the rest of the year.

These are great social events for you and your dachshund and no matter where you live in Perth, we’ve spread the locations out so that everyone can attend all or some of them.

Long Dogs WA High Tea Fundraiser 2016
Fancy a cup of tea with a delicious scone covered in a dollop of generosity? Our High Tea Fundraiser was a huge success in 2015 and on the 28th of May 2016, we’ll be hosting this lovely afternoon at The Pagoda once again. Tickets are strictly limited so make sure you secure your seat or table as soon as tickets are on sale to avoid disappointment. Whilst this is a “fur free” event, ladies feel free to bring the gents along so they can assist with eating the fabulous food and bidding ever so “quietly” on the silent auction items that will be up for grabs on the day. There will also be great prizes to be won, a challenging quiz along with a lots of fabulous merchandise for sale!

Charity Movie Screening “The Secret Life of Pets”
Ever wonder what your pets get up to whilst you are at work or out during the day? Well on Sunday the 11th of September, Long Dogs WA are hosting a Charity Screening at Grand Cinemas in Warwick of the movie “The Secret Life of Pets”. Click here to view the trailer.
We would love for you to bring along friends and family with all profits being donated to dachshunds in need. There will be door prizes up for grabs and whilst we know how much you all like to snuggle with your fur babies to watch a good movie, this too is a “fur free” event. At least we’ll all know what they are doing whilst we are at the movies……

Annual Long Dogs WA Fundraiser
Last year’s annual “Cirque du Sausage” fundraiser was a “clowning” success with double the number of humans and dachshunds attending when compared to the years prior. We are looking forward to seeing both new and familiar faces later this year at Kings Meadow Polo Ground on Sunday the 23rd of October. Each year the fundraising team put their thinking caps on to decide on a theme for the day. Let’s face it, our dachshunds are our children, our best mates and we share our lives together watching them grow so we thought it was perfect to theme our 2016 fundraiser………

“When I grow up, I wanna be…..”

Personally, I would like to be a spoilt dachshund when I grow up. Imagine all those belly rubs, kisses, cuddles, scratches, bubble baths, home cooked meals ZZZ zzz ZZZ zzz, oops sorry I was dreaming there for a minute! So let’s see how many astronauts, doctors, nurses, teachers, fur firemen, pilots etc we’ll have amongst our long dog’s community. I already know we have a professional wrestler (Jonathon a.k.a “Nacho Libre”), body builder (Ryder) and model (Molly). We may even have a few celebrities join us on the day…….

Other great fundraising initiatives for 2016 will include Easter Chocolates, Entertainment Books and Bunning’s Sausage Sizzles. We’ll also be putting together some fabulous gift packs for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day so be sure to check out our online shop at https://longdogswa.org/shop/. We’re also pleased to inform you that we have a new mobile PayPal machine which will enable easier payment options at walks and events!

Your Generosity goes a “long” way
2016 is going to be another great year for Long Dogs WA, as with your continued support, you not only get to hang out with other crazy dachshund enthusiasts but your generosity makes a huge difference to so many dachshunds in need. Should you wish to volunteer to assist at any of these events, please let us know by contacting us via longdogswa@gmail.com

Cirque du Sausage - 2015 FUNdraiser

While not everyone loves a clown, at least 297 dachshunds enjoy a good circus.

Cirque du Sausage rolled up a record breaking attendance and we hope you all had as much fun as it appeared.

The record was broken by over 100 dogs. Our hardworking Canteen A-Team had no idea what the day had in store for them. No left overs to take home from this Carnival that's for sure. Hot dogs, drinks, cupcakes, coffee - out the door it all went as fast as they could say "would you like a dachshund stubby mug with that" (we still have some of those in stock for those of you who didn't pick one up).

Our resident clowns and their handlers kicked things off down at Side Show Alley with the ball toss, kissing booth, shooting range, ball pit and the TUNNEL of DOOM. And to keep the blood sugar up we served up popcorn and fairy floss like any self respecting circus would.

Frock up for High Tea

Want to share your love for dachshunds without your friends and family thinking you're a bit nuts?

Invite them along to High Tea at the Pagoda Resort and Spa on Saturday 13 June and show them that even crazy dachshund ladies (and gents) can drink tea with their pinky out.1 Well, maybe don't phrase it to them in those exact terms, but you get the idea.
